What this document is
EX-01 (“Solicitud de autorización de residencia temporal no lucrativa”) is the official form to apply for a temporary residence permit in Spain without the right to work. It is for people who live on their own means — savings, a pension, income from assets — and have health insurance. The form is in Spanish and has three pages: two to fill in and one with instructions.
EX forms must be submitted in the official model: FoxDocs only types your values into the fields of the official PDF and does not change its layout.
Who files it and where
- initial permit: a foreigner who wants to live in Spain without working — usually at the Spanish consulate in the country of residence together with the visa application;
- a family member of the funds holder (spouse, children) — on a separate form, ticking “family member”; the funds holder’s details go in section 2;
- renewal: the permit holder files electronically, via the Mercurio sede electrónica — within the two months before expiry or the three months after it;
- you must prove sufficient funds for the whole period and health insurance (public or private) from an insurer authorised in Spain; the required amount is linked to the IPREM indicator and is updated;
- the permit fee is paid with form 790 code 052, and the consulate charges a separate visa fee; check the amounts on the form or with the office;
- section 3 is filled in if a representative files; the initial application at the consulate is filed in person (for a minor, by the legal representative).
What the form asks for
- section 1: passport, NIE (if any), surnames, name, sex, date of birth (dd/mm/aaaa), place and country of birth, nationality, civil status, parents’ names, address in Spain, phone, e-mail, legal representative;
- in the same section — whether you have dependent school-age children in Spain (yes / no);
- section 2: the family member who holds the funds (if you apply as a family member): passport, NIE, names, sex, civil status, date and country of birth, parents, relationship;
- section 3: representative for submitting; section 4: address for notifications and consent to electronic notifications via DEHú;
- section 5: initial permit or renewal — as funds holder or as their family member;
- place, date, signature and the office addressed (DIR3 code and province).
Documents usually brought along
- the EX-01 form, original and a copy, filled in in capital letters;
- the full passport, original and a copy;
- proof of funds: bank statements, pension, income from assets;
- health insurance (public or private) from an insurer authorised in Spain; check the policy requirements with the consulate;
- for an initial permit usually a criminal record certificate and a medical certificate; for a family member — proof of the relationship;
- the fee receipt; the exact list depends on the consulate or office — check in advance.
How to fill it in with FoxDocs
- Tell the chat in any language who you are, whether this is a first application or a renewal, and whose funds you will live on.
- The assistant fills the boxes in capital letters, splits dates into dd/mm/aaaa and the NIE into its boxes, and ticks the type of permit.
- Download the PDF, check it, print, sign it by hand and submit it with a copy and your documents.
