What this document is

“Solicitud de Ingreso Mínimo Vital” is the official form of Spain’s National Social Security Institute (INSS). The Ingreso Mínimo Vital (IMV) is a monthly state payment for people and families without enough income or assets; it tops income up to a guaranteed minimum.

You apply for yourself alone or for the whole household (unidad de convivencia) — the people who live together as a family. Residents of the Basque Country, Navarre and Catalonia cannot use this form: applications work differently there.

Who can apply

  • people living in Spain lawfully and continuously for at least one year — including foreigners with a residence permit (the form asks for the permit type and dates);
  • single applicants under 30 and aged 30+ answer different questions about living independently and contributions;
  • the household’s income and net assets last year must be below set thresholds; if last year’s income was too high, from 1 April you can apply on this year’s income (sudden vulnerability);
  • special situations (violence victims, divorce, eviction) have exceptions and are ticked separately.

How to apply

  • online — at the Social Security electronic office, with or without a digital signature or Cl@ve;
  • by post or at an INSS centre (CAISS) by appointment;
  • if you refuse consent to data checks, you must bring the documents within 10 working days;
  • payment only into a Spanish account held by the applicant.

How the form is laid out

Twenty pages: applicant, representatives and helping organisations, type of application, special circumstances, household members (up to 11, with Annex I), addresses and type of housing, financial situation, statements, IBAN, consents and signature; then INSS pages and instructions. FoxDocs types your data into the fields of the official PDF without changing the layout.

Frequently asked questions

Can a foreigner get the IMV?

Yes, after at least one year of lawful, continuous residence in Spain. Victims of gender violence and trafficking have exceptions.

Who belongs to the household?

Everyone living at the same address and linked by marriage, partnership or kinship up to the second degree, plus children in your care.

Which income do I declare?

All household members’ income from last year, excluding the regional minimum income, plus the net value of assets other than the main home.

Can I work and get the IMV?

Yes. The IMV is compatible with work: the payment falls as income rises, with incentives for those in work.

Do I need a Spanish bank account?

Yes. The IBAN goes in section 6, and the applicant must be the account holder.

What is a “unidad de convivencia”?

Your household: people living together as a family. Living with unrelated people is marked separately.

Who fills in pages 10–11?

INSS staff, who list the documents required. Applicants leave them blank.
