What this document is
“Solicitud de Alta o Cambio de domicilio en el Padrón de Habitantes de Algeciras” is the official form of the Ayuntamiento de Algeciras for registering in the municipal register of residents (padrón). One sheet covers a first registration and a change of address within the town.
The sheet is in Spanish, landscape A4: the first page is filled in, the back lists the documents, instructions and education codes. One sheet takes up to six people at the same address.
Who submits it and where
- anyone living in Algeciras, foreigners included: after moving from another town or country, moving within the town, a birth, or if never registered before (omisión);
- the sheet goes to the town hall’s Delegación de Estadística (C/ Regino Martínez, 7) with originals and copies of the documents; it can also be filed through the town hall’s e-office with an electronic DNI or digital certificate;
- foreigners must renew their registration: non-EU nationals without permanent residence every 2 years, EU nationals and foreigners with permanent or long-term residence every 5 years;
- no fee is stated on the form — check with the town hall;
- everyone over 16, both parents of children under 16 and, if needed, the authorising person sign by hand.
What the form asks
- address: street type and name, number, bis, km, block, entrance, staircase, floor, door and a contact phone (optional);
- for each of up to six people: first name, two surnames, sex, country and town of birth, date of birth, education code, nationality, ID type and number, reason and where they came from;
- registration consent from a registered resident or the owner of the home — if needed;
- a tick if the application spans several sheets (more than six people).
What to bring
- the signed sheet;
- original and copy of everyone’s ID: Spaniards — DNI or passport; EU nationals — passport or national ID card (registration certificate with NIE recommended); other foreigners — passport or foreigner’s card;
- for children — libro de familia or birth certificate; if one parent registers a child under 16 — a court custody ruling or the town hall’s declaration form;
- a housing document: the title deed (escritura) or a Land Registry nota simple no older than 6 months, a current rental contract with the last payment receipt, the latest electricity, water or gas bill, or an IBI or rubbish-tax receipt for the last half-year;
- if someone else authorises — their ID and housing document.
