What this document is
“Solicitud de alta del título de familia numerosa” is the Generalitat de Catalunya application for a first large family title (procedure 8624, form IM 99416 V1-23). The title officially recognises the family as a large family and gives access to benefits; each family member gets a personal card valid throughout Spain.
Since 1 March 2025 plastic cards are no longer issued: they are available digitally in the La meva Cartera app, where you can also download a PDF with a QR code. The official form is an interactive Adobe (XFA) form that only opens in Adobe Reader; FoxDocs reproduces its pages and writes your details into the same boxes.
Who applies and where
- one or two parents (also guardians and foster parents) with three or more dependent children, shared or not;
- in some cases two children are enough — for example if one child has a disability of 33% or more, or if the other parent has died; the full list is under “Requisitos” on the procedure page;
- all family members giving the right to the title must reside legally in Spain; for foreign nationals the title is valid as long as the residence permit;
- apply online (digital certificate or idCAT Mòbil required) or in person: book an appointment (online or by calling 012) at a citizen service office and bring the completed, signed application and the children’s annexes, or file it at an official registry;
- the procedure is free of charge.
What the form asks
- first and second applicant: given name, two surnames, document type and number (DNI, EU-citizen NIE or non-EU NIE with the TIE card support number), gender, date of birth, marital status;
- if widowed — name and DNI/NIE of the deceased spouse; any recognised disability (65% or 33%, in Catalonia or elsewhere, incapacity pension) and consent to check it;
- e-mail, mobile and landline, the family address with comarca and municipality;
- consent to electronic notifications, declarations and authorisations to check data, the list of attached documents, place and date.
- The children’s details go in separate annexes: one for children under 21 and one for those over 21.
Documents usually needed
- DNI or NIE of every family member; children under 14 without a DNI/NIE are identified by their TSI health card (non-EU children need an NIE from age 1);
- the family book (libro de familia) or each child’s birth certificate; for adoption, guardianship or foster care — the relevant decision;
- for children aged 21–25 who study — proof of enrolment or studies for the current year;
- after divorce or separation — the court ruling with the settlement; if you pay support for children living elsewhere — the last six receipts;
- a cohabitation certificate and a disability certificate — only if you do not let the Department fetch this data itself or the disability was recognised outside Catalonia.
