What this document is

N-1 (“Prestaciones familiares no contributivas de pago único”) is the official form of Spain’s National Social Security Institute (INSS). It claims a one-off (not monthly) payment for the birth or adoption of a child.

The top of the form asks which payment you claim: a birth or adoption in a large family (familia numerosa), in a single-parent family (familia monoparental), to a mother or father with a disability of 65 % or more — and, separately, a multiple birth or the adoption of several children at once.

The payment does not depend on contributions. The large-family, single-parent and disabled-parent payments are subject to a family income limit; for the multiple-birth payment the form does not ask for the income section. Check the current amount and limit on the Social Security website.

Who applies and where

  • the parent or adoptive parent (also a guardian or carer with custody); for a minor parent, their legal representative;
  • foreign nationals living in Spain are asked whether they were legally resident on the date of the birth or adoption;
  • online at the Social Security e-office with a digital certificate or Cl@ve, or without them via run.gob.es/tramites;
  • on paper — a signed copy by post or at a CAISS office by appointment (cita previa).

What the form asks

  • applicant’s details and address, relationship with the other parent, large-family certificate (number, dates, category);
  • work and benefits of the applicant and the other parent, the parent’s disability (for that payment);
  • a table of children: those the payment is for (up to four) and other dependent children (up to four);
  • both parents’ income in the year before the birth or adoption, a bank account (IBAN in the applicant’s name), consents and signature.

What to bring

  • ID of the applicant, the other parent and the children: DNI or, for foreign nationals, TIE, EU registration certificate, NIE;
  • the family book (libro de familia) or birth certificates from the Civil Registry;
  • a certificate of municipal registration (empadronamiento) where the form’s instructions require it;
  • proof of income and, depending on the case: the large-family certificate, a disability certificate of the child or parent, a court ruling on divorce or custody.

How to fill it in with FoxDocs

Tell the chat who you are, which child was born or adopted and which payment you need. FoxDocs puts your answers into the fields of the official PDF without changing its layout: the IBAN is split into boxes, your name and NIE repeat in each page header, and the signing date uses the Spanish month name.

The form is signed by the applicant and, if there is one, by the other parent.

Frequently asked questions

Can I claim both — as a large family and for twins?

They are separate items on the form: the payment type is ticked at the top and a multiple birth has its own box. INSS checks each entitlement under its own conditions.

Do I need a contribution record?

No, the payment is non-contributory. But the family’s income in the year before the birth goes in section 5 and is checked — except for the multiple-birth payment alone, where section 5 is left blank.

What if the large-family certificate has not been issued yet?

The form has a “Lo ha solicitado” box and an application date — state that you have applied for it.

Must I fill in the other parent’s section?

Yes, except for single-parent families and applications on behalf of a minor. INSS asks for as much data as possible, including the other parent’s DNI/NIE, even if you do not live together.

How long does a decision take?

According to the form, up to 45 days from registration of the application or from when the requested documents are provided. If there is no reply in time, the claim is deemed rejected and you may ask for a decision.

What if I do not consent to my data being checked?

Then you must bring the documents INSS asks for yourself within 10 working days.

Whose bank account must it be?

The applicant’s. The exception is a legal representative authorised by a court to collect the payment.
