What this document is
“Inscripción en el Padrón Municipal de Habitantes” is the official form of the Ayuntamiento de Marbella (Estadística y Padrón department) for entry in the municipal register of residents. The same sheet is used for first registration (alta), a change of address within Marbella and a change of personal details.
The sheet is in Spanish, A4 landscape: page one is filled in; the back has the instructions, the list of documents and the education codes. One sheet takes up to four people at the same address.
Who files it and where
- anyone who lives in Marbella, including foreigners: when moving from another town or country, moving within the town, after a birth, when details change, or if never registered before (omisión);
- the sheet is handed in to the Estadística y Padrón department of Marbella City Council with originals and copies of the documents; check appointments and opening hours on the council website;
- registering in Marbella automatically cancels any previous registration in another municipality or at a consulate;
- non-EU foreigners without permanent residence must renew the registration every two years, otherwise it may be declared expired;
- the form states a maximum of three months to decide; no fee is stated on the form — check with the council;
- every adult listed on the sheet signs it by hand.
What the form asks
- the address: street type and name, number, letter, km, block, entrance, staircase, floor, door and a landline (optional);
- for each of up to four people: given name, two surnames, sex, date, country and town of birth, nationality, ID type and number, education code, reason and where they came from, mobile and e-mail (optional);
- consent of a resident already registered there who holds the housing document, and consent of a parent or guardian for children — if needed;
- the documents presented, the number of people listed, a voluntary authorisation and the date.
What to bring
- the sheet signed by every adult;
- a valid ID for each person: Spaniards — DNI; EU citizens — registration certificate with NIE plus ID card or passport; other foreigners — TIE with NIE or passport;
- for children — libro de familia or birth certificate; if one parent registers the child — the other parent's consent or a custody declaration on the council's form;
- proof of the home: escritura, nota simple (no older than 6 months) or the paid IBI receipt for the last year; if renting — a valid contract plus an electricity or water bill no older than 6 months (or the IBI receipt, or a nota simple);
- if a registered resident authorises — a copy of their ID and the housing document in their name.
