What this document is

MI-T “Sector Audiovisual — Titular” is the official Spanish application form for a residence authorisation (residencia) or a stay authorisation (estancia) for foreign nationals working in the audiovisual sector: film, series, television, video games, live performances and recordings for mass distribution. It is based on Orden PCM/1238/2021 (Council of Ministers instructions on entry and stay of audiovisual professionals), with Law 14/2013 applying in addition. The form is in Spanish, two pages: the application and the filling instructions.

FoxDocs only types your data into the fields of the official PDF and does not change its layout.

Who files it and where

  • artists, technicians and other professionals from outside the EU with an employment or professional relationship with a Spanish company taking part in an audiovisual project;
  • residence authorisation — for work in Spain longer than 180 days; valid for the length of the contract, at most two years, renewable for two-year periods while the conditions remain;
  • stay authorisation — for someone already in Spain under the 90-day rule whose project needs them to stay up to 180 days; it must be filed at least 30 days before the 90 days since entering Schengen run out;
  • the Spanish company (or its legal representative) files it electronically only, on the sede electrónica of the Ministry of Inclusion; the Unidad de Grandes Empresas y Colectivos Estratégicos (UGE-CE) processes it, decides within 20 days, and silence means approval;
  • work of up to 90 days in any 180-day period needs no work authorisation, and 90–180 days from abroad is a visa at the consulate — the MI-T form is not used in those cases;
  • the fee is paid with form 038, “Punto 7” (Ley 14/2013), and its NRC goes on the form; check the amount on the ministry website.

What the form asks for

  • type: residence authorisation (initial — living abroad, holding a stay or a residence permit; or renewal) or stay authorisation;
  • the foreign national: passport, NIE, surnames, first name, place of birth, sex (H/M), marital status (S/C/V/D/Sp/Uh), date of birth (dd/mm/aaaa), country, nationality, parents’ names, address in Spain or country of residence, phone and e-mail;
  • the Spanish company: name, NIF, audiovisual activity, your occupation, legal representative with DNI/NIE/passport and position; when a foreign company sends you — its name;
  • the person filing electronically (needs a digital certificate) and the NRC of the fee;
  • place, date and signature: the employer signs an initial residence application, the foreign national signs a stay or a renewal.

Documents usually attached

  • the completed and signed MI-T form;
  • a valid passport;
  • the contract or another proof of the employment or professional relationship with the hiring or sending company;
  • proof that the company takes part in the audiovisual project and is up to date with Social Security and tax;
  • health insurance for the whole period if you will not be covered by the National Health System;
  • for residence — a clean criminal record for the last 5 years in Spain and in previous countries of residence;
  • the fee receipt (NRC); check the exact list on the official website before filing.

How to fill it in with FoxDocs

  1. Tell the chat, in any language, how long you are coming for, where you are now and which company hires you.
  2. The assistant fills in the fields in capitals, splits the date of birth into dd/mm/aaaa and the NIE into letter, number and check letter, and ticks the right boxes.
  3. Download the PDF, check it, sign it and give it to the company for electronic filing.

Frequently asked questions

Who needs the MI-T Sector Audiovisual form?

Non-EU artists, technicians and other professionals working in Spain on film, series, video games, shows and similar projects for more than 180 days, or who are already in Spain and must extend their stay up to 180 days.

How is it different from the regular MI-T?

The regular MI-T is for entrepreneurs, highly qualified professionals, researchers, intra-company transferees and teleworkers under Law 14/2013. This one is a separate form under Orden PCM/1238/2021 for the audiovisual sector only.

Do I need it if the shoot lasts less than 90 days?

No. Work of up to 90 days in any 180 days is exempt from a work authorisation; on arrival you get an NIE and the company registers you with Social Security unless an international agreement covers you.

Who files the application?

The Spanish company or its legal representative, electronically on the ministry’s sede electrónica. The person filing is named on the form and needs a digital certificate.

How long does the decision take?

Under Orden PCM/1238/2021 a residence authorisation is decided within 20 days of electronic filing; without an answer it is deemed granted. Applicants abroad then get a visa at the consulate.

How long is the residence permit valid?

For the length of the contract or the posting to Spain, at most two years, renewable for two-year periods while the conditions remain.

How much is the fee?

It is paid with form 038, “Punto 7” (Ley 14/2013); the amount is set by Orden ESS/1571/2014 — check the current figure on the ministry website.
