What this document is

TM.88 (ตม.88, 落地签证申请表 / Application for Visa on Arrival) is a foreigner's application for a visa on arrival in Thailand. It is issued by the Thai Immigration Bureau (Royal Thai Police).

This version of the form is printed in Chinese and English and has one page. The boxes are filled in English; names and addresses in Latin letters, as in the passport.

Who files it and where

  • a foreigner whose nationality is on Thailand's list of countries eligible for a visa on arrival; the list changes, and some nationalities can enter visa-free — check before travelling whether you need a visa at all;
  • the form is submitted on entry at the Visa on Arrival counter of a checkpoint that provides this service (usually international airports);
  • the form states a fee of 2,000 baht per person, Thai currency only, non-refundable; check the current amount on the Immigration Bureau website.

What the form asks for

  • title (Miss / Mr. / Mrs.), family name, first name, middle name;
  • nationality, passport number, date and place of issue, expiry date, date of birth;
  • flight number and occupation;
  • permanent address and address in Thailand;
  • name and address of a person of reference in Thailand;
  • minor children travelling on the same passport: names, dates and places of birth;
  • signature and date; a 4×6 cm photo goes in the box.

Documents usually brought along

  • a passport with sufficient validity;
  • one 4×6 cm photograph;
  • a return or onward ticket, accommodation booking and funds for the stay — if asked;
  • the fee in cash in Thai baht.

The exact requirements, fee and permitted stay are set by the Thai authorities and change — check them on the Immigration Bureau website or with a Thai embassy before you travel.

Frequently asked questions

What is the TM.88 form for?

It is the application for a visa on arrival in Thailand, submitted at the Visa on Arrival counter on entry.

Do I need a visa on arrival?

It depends on your nationality: Thailand keeps separate lists for visa on arrival and visa-free entry, and they change. Check the current rules on the Immigration Bureau website or with a Thai embassy.

In which language do I fill in the Chinese/English form?

In English. Names, addresses and the place of issue are written in Latin letters exactly as in the passport (pinyin for PRC citizens), not in Chinese characters.

How much does the visa on arrival cost?

The form states a fee of 2,000 baht per person, Thai currency only, non-refundable. The amount may have changed — check before you travel.

Do I list my children?

Only minors who are entered in your passport and travel on it. A child with their own passport fills in a separate form.

What goes into "person of reference in Thailand"?

The name and address of an acquaintance or host in Thailand. If you have none, people usually give the hotel where they stay.
