What this document is
TM.88 (ตม.88, Application for Visa on Arrival) is a foreigner's application for a visa issued on arrival by the Thai Immigration Bureau at a border checkpoint. The form is in English and has one page.
Only nationals of countries on the list approved by the Thai government can get a Visa on Arrival; the list and conditions change.
Who files it and where
- a national of a Visa on Arrival country coming to Thailand for a short stay (usually tourism);
- it is filed in person at the Visa on Arrival counter of a checkpoint that offers the service (major international airports and some land checkpoints);
- the form states a fee of 2,000 baht per person, Thai currency only, non-refundable. Check the current amount before travelling;
- children entered in a parent's passport are listed on the same form; a child with their own passport fills in a separate one.
What the form asks for
- title (Miss./Mr./Mrs. — circled), family name, first name, middle name in Latin block letters;
- nationality, passport number, date and place of issue, expiry date, date of birth;
- flight number, occupation, permanent address, address in Thailand;
- name and address of a person of reference in Thailand;
- minor children travelling on the same passport: names, dates and places of birth;
- signature and date; a 4×6 cm photo is attached in the box. The FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY part is completed by the officer.
Documents usually brought along
- a passport with sufficient validity;
- one 4×6 cm photograph;
- Thai baht in cash for the fee;
- proof of a return or onward ticket, accommodation and sufficient funds — the officer may ask for them.
Check the exact document list, fee, eligible countries and permitted length of stay on the Immigration Bureau website or with a Thai embassy before you travel.
