What this document is

WP.50 (แบบ บต.50) is a form of the Department of Employment, Ministry of Labour of Thailand, for foreigners whom the Cabinet has allowed to work in the Kingdom as a special case. One form covers three kinds of application: a work permit application, a work permit renewal and an application in lieu of a foreigner.

The A.5 checklist (อ.5) is for foreigners who wish to continue working in the Kingdom under the Cabinet Resolution of 5 July 2022 (B.E. 2565). In this package the renewal box (Work Permit Renewal Application) is therefore usually ticked.

Is the form still in use

The A.5 checklist refers to work permits renewed until 13 February 2024 and until 13 February 2025. It was a temporary measure with fixed dates. Before filing, check with the Department of Employment whether it accepts this form in your case and which dates apply now.

Who files it and where

  • the foreigner signs the application; the WP.46 certification is signed by the employer or its authorised signatory;
  • it is submitted to the Department of Employment — the provincial employment office or the Bangkok area office for the place of work; check the exact office and procedure with the DOE;
  • the "for official use only" part, the registrar's order and the payment records are completed by the office.

What the package contains

  • the WP.50 application (2 pages): the foreigner, passport and permitted stay, the employer and its address, category of work, period applied for, place of work, whether the documents are complete;
  • the A.5 document checklist (2 pages) with boxes for the attached documents;
  • the WP.46 employment certification: employer status, capital, financial status, staff numbers, terms of employment of the foreigner and the reason a Thai national is not employed.

Documents to attach (per the A.5 checklist)

  • 4.1 a copy of the passport or of the document in lieu of passport (only one);
  • 4.2 a copy of the document showing permission to temporarily reside in the Kingdom;
  • 4.3 two 3 × 4 cm photographs (full face, no hat);
  • 4.4 the employment certification on form WP.46;
  • 4.5 if the employer is a juristic person: a copy of the business licence or government certificate of registration showing the category of business.

According to the caution in the checklist, after filing the foreigner must also give the registrar a copy of the permission to stay and social security or health insurance documents (depending on whether the employer falls under the Social Security Law). Fees and processing times are not stated on the form — check with the office.

Which language to use

The form is in Thai with English captions. FoxDocs fills it in Latin letters: the name as in the passport, addresses transliterated, the position and work description in English. Check in advance whether the office accepts this or requires a Thai version.

How to fill it in with FoxDocs

  1. Open the chat on this page and write in any language who you are and who employs you.
  2. Answer the questions about your passport, permission to stay, employer and place of work, or send documents — the assistant fills in the application, ticks the A.5 checklist and completes the WP.46 certification.
  3. Check the fields and download the PDF.
  4. Print, sign (the employer signs WP.46), attach the photos and copies, and submit to the Department of Employment.
