What this document is

TA.2/S ("Solicitud de alta, baja o variación de datos del trabajador por cuenta ajena o asimilado") is the official form of Spain's General Treasury of Social Security (TGSS). It reports that an employee starts work (alta), stops working (baja) or that the data of the employment have changed (variación de datos).

The alta determines the worker's contributions, healthcare, benefits and contribution record.

Who files it and where

  • the employer files it — a company or an individual hiring a worker;
  • if the employer did not file the alta in time, the worker may request it directly at any time afterwards (Royal Decree 84/1996, art. 32) — there is a separate form for that, TA.2/T;
  • alta — at the TGSS Provincial Directorate or Administration of the province where the employer is based; baja and changes — where the alta was filed;
  • employers connected to the RED system report the same thing online; the paper form is printed, signed and submitted to the TGSS.

Deadlines under Royal Decree 84/1996 (art. 32.3, BOE text as of 2026-10-09): alta — before work starts, but no earlier than 60 calendar days before; baja and data changes — within 6 calendar days after the job ends or the change happens.

What the form asks for

  • worker's details: surnames and name, Social Security number (NSS), date of birth, identity document, address, e-mail and mobile;
  • what is reported — alta, baja or change, its date and reason; start or end of an inactivity period;
  • employer: name, Social Security scheme, contribution account code (CCC), address;
  • employment data: contract code, contribution group, collective agreement, part-time hours, special situations (unemployed, ERTE, care leave, etc.).

What to bring

  • the worker's identity document (DNI, foreigner card with NIE; passport only for EU, EEA and Swiss citizens);
  • the employment contract or its details (contract code, contribution group, collective agreement);
  • proof of authority if a representative files for the employer.

Check the exact list of documents for your case with the TGSS. If something is missing, the TGSS asks you to complete it within 10 days ("Subsanación" block on page 3).

How to fill it in with FoxDocs

Tell the chat whom you are hiring or letting go, and when. FoxDocs asks only what is needed, splits dates and numbers into the boxes and repeats the NSS, CCC and date on the receipt and copy on page 3. Sections for special cases (maritime scheme, fruit and vegetables, part-time) are skipped if they do not apply. Values are printed in capitals, as the form instructions require.

Frequently asked questions

Who files TA.2/S — the employer or the worker?

The employer. If the employer misses the alta deadline, the worker may request it directly at any time afterwards (Royal Decree 84/1996, art. 32), but on the separate form TA.2/T.

When must the alta be filed?

Before work starts, but no earlier than 60 calendar days before it (Royal Decree 84/1996, art. 32.3).

How long is there for a baja or a data change?

6 calendar days after the job ends or the change happens — under the current text of Royal Decree 84/1996 in the BOE (checked 2026-10-09).

The worker has no Social Security number yet. What now?

First get the number with form TA.1 (afiliación / asignación de número), then file the alta with TA.2/S.

Can a passport be used instead of an NIE?

The form accepts a passport as the identity document only for EU, EEA and Swiss citizens, and only for an alta. Everyone else needs a foreigner card with an NIE.

What about section 4 if there are no special situations?

Fill in the contract code, contribution group and collective agreement, and leave the special-scheme and situation boxes empty. The chat asks about them in one question.

How long does a decision take?

According to the form, up to 45 days from registration of the application; without an answer in that time the application may be deemed approved.

Do I need to fill in page 3?

FoxDocs repeats the NSS, CCC, type of application and date there automatically. The grey boxes and the "Subsanación y/o mejora requerida" block are filled in by the TGSS.
