What this document is

A DTV application is filed online only through Thai e-Visa, and documents are uploaded as files. A one- or two-page cover letter helps the consul see the whole picture quickly: who applies, in which category, for how long, how the funds are shown and what is enclosed.

It is FoxDocs’ own template, not a government form. A cover letter is not required everywhere — some embassies do not ask for it, but it is commonly accepted. It only lists facts and does not guarantee a visa.

DTV categories in the letter

  • Workcation — remote workers, digital nomads, freelancers, foreign talent;
  • Thai soft power — Muay Thai, Thai cooking classes, medical treatment, seminars and other events;
  • spouse and children under 20 of a DTV holder.

Requirements in 2026

  • passport biodata page (valid for at least 6 months) and a photo taken within 6 months;
  • funds: bank statements for 3 months with at least 500,000 THB or the equivalent, or a sponsorship letter;
  • since 31 August 2026, for every category — proof of permanent residence in the country of application and a criminal record clearance certificate (from the country of nationality or of application);
  • category documents: work (contract, employer letter, portfolio), confirmation of the activity or medical appointment, the DTV holder’s visa and proof of relationship.

The DTV is a 5-year multiple-entry visa; each stay is up to 180 days and may be extended once by up to 180 days at immigration. Lists differ between embassies — follow the e-Visa page of your embassy.

How to fill it in with FoxDocs

Answer the chat in any language: passport details, embassy, category, purpose and dates, address in Thailand, funds, which documents you enclose. FoxDocs writes everything in Latin letters and ticks the boxes. Download the PDF, sign it and upload it to the e-Visa application.

Frequently asked questions

Is a cover letter mandatory for the DTV?

Not everywhere. This is an unofficial FoxDocs template; many applicants enclose such a letter to make the package easy to check. The mandatory list is on your embassy’s e-Visa page.

How much money do I need for the DTV?

According to embassy checklists — bank statements for the last 3 months with a balance of at least 500,000 THB or the equivalent, or a sponsorship letter. Check the current amount with your embassy.

What changed on 31 August 2026?

A criminal record clearance certificate and proof of permanent residence in the country of application were added for all DTV categories. Applications filed earlier follow the previous rules.

Where do I apply?

Online at thaievisa.go.th, choosing the Thai embassy or consulate in the country of your permanent residence.

How long can I stay on a DTV?

Up to 180 days per entry, extendable once by up to 180 days at an immigration office (form TM.7). The visa is valid for 5 years.

Does the letter guarantee the visa?

No. The embassy or consulate decides on the visa, and Thai immigration decides on entry and the length of stay.
