What this document is
“Intenção de Venda” is an official form of the Vehicle Registration Directorate (Diretoria de Registro de Veículos) of DETRAN-RJ, the traffic department of the state of Rio de Janeiro. It has no number; it is listed in the vehicle forms section.
In it the seller declares that they freely wish to sell or transfer the vehicle to another person or company and asks for an ATPV-e (Autorização para Transferência de Propriedade de Veículo) — so that the sale can be completed and the new owner can register the vehicle in their name. Who files it and where
- the current owner (seller) files it; the signature “Assinatura do atual proprietário (vendedor)” is handwritten;
- the form is filed with DETRAN-RJ together with copies of the seller’s and buyer’s documents listed on it;
- the form marks the e-mail of both seller and buyer as mandatory (obrigatório);
- check on detran.rj.gov.br where and how it is accepted and whether a fee applies.
What the form asks for
- seller: name and social name (nome social), identity document and issuing body (órgão expedidor), CPF, driving licence (CNH), phones and personal e-mail; there is no box for the seller’s address;
- vehicle: licence plate (placa) and RENAVAM;
- sale price (valor da venda);
- CRV security code (número de segurança do CRV);
- buyer: name and social name, identity document, CPF, address (street, number, complemento, CEP, state, city, neighbourhood), phones and personal e-mail;
- the date in the line “Rio de Janeiro, … de … de …”; the seller signs by hand.
What to bring
- copies of the buyer’s and seller’s identity document and CPF;
- the latest CRLV-e issued — the document you must carry in the vehicle;
- the document with the CRV security code — the one you do not have to carry;
- for a company — CNPJ, founding documents and the partner’s or representative’s ID; for fleet vehicles of public bodies — a separate list linked on the form.
