What this document is
«REQUERIMENTO» is the form of DETRAN-PR, the traffic department of the state of Paraná (Brazil), for requests about a traffic offence notice (auto de infração). You tick the reason: defence (defesa), appeal to JARI, appeal to CETRAN, administrative request, copy of the case file, copy of the A.R./A.I. or refund of a fine; a separate box takes the number of a licence suspension or revocation case.
According to DETRAN-PR, a challenge has three stages: first the defence against the notice, then — if it was refused or not filed — an appeal to JARI, and if JARI refuses, an appeal to CETRAN by the date given in the notice of the JARI decision.
Who files it and where
- it is signed by the vehicle owner or the driver, as stated on the DETRAN-PR service page;
- each defence or appeal may concern only one auto de infração;
- you can file online (DETRAN-PR website, PIÁ, Detran InteliGente), by registered letter to the DETRAN-PR head office in Curitiba, or in person at a service unit (by appointment in some cities);
- the DETRAN-PR page lists the service as free of charge; deadlines are stated in the notices you received;
- check who sent the notice: the sender shows which authority the defence must go to.
What the form asks for
- the offence notice number (auto de infração) and the vehicle plate;
- whether you file as owner or driver, and the reason for the request;
- name, CPF, RG/RNE/CRNM with the issuing state, CNH licence number, phones and e-mail;
- address: street, number, complemento, bairro, town, state and CEP;
- grounds (justificativa) on 9 lines, place and date; the signature is handwritten.
What to bring
- a copy of the offence or penalty notice (Notificação de Autuação / de Penalidade);
- a copy of your CNH or another document showing your signature;
- where possible, proof of address and the vehicle CRLV;
- evidence (photos, receipts, etc.); for a company vehicle, documents proving the signatory’s authority;
- check with DETRAN-PR what is needed for copies of a case and for refunds.
