What this document is

STM.2 (แบบ สตม.๒) is a short acknowledgement addressed to the Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau. A foreigner who has applied for an extension of stay confirms that the officer explained the conditions of the permit and undertakes to follow them.

The form is bilingual (Thai and English text on one page) and is signed in the presence of an immigration officer.

Which conditions you acknowledge

According to the form, the permit of temporary stay ends immediately if:

  1. the reason for which the extension was requested changes;
  2. the conditions of the permit change or end — except where the foreigner stays as a family member of a Thai national, a resident or a foreigner and that person dies;
  3. the employer (juristic person or organisation) changes or is dissolved, the job ends, the work permit expires, or the educational institution, internship workplace or research institution changes.

Who files it and where

  • a foreigner extending a permit of stay in Thailand (for example for work, family, study or retirement);
  • it is submitted at the immigration office together with the extension package (TM.7 application);
  • check with your immigration office in which cases STM.2 is required.

What the form asks for

  • date (in the Thai part the year is in the Buddhist Era, พ.ศ.);
  • title (Mr./Mrs./Miss), full name, age, nationality;
  • the reason for which you request the extension;
  • the applicant's signature — by hand, in front of the officer.

Documents usually brought along

  • passport and the full extension package for your reason (TM.7 application, photo, copies);
  • STM.2 itself needs no separate attachments.

The exact document list, fees and processing time depend on the reason and the office — check the Immigration Bureau website or the office in advance.
