What this document is
EX-29 (“Solicitud de prórroga de estancia de corta duración”) is the official application form to extend a short stay. It is used by a foreign national who came to Spain for a purpose other than living, working or studying and cannot leave on time for an exceptional reason.
A visa-free stay can be extended only in exceptional cases and by no more than three months beyond the initial stay (art. 49 RD 1155/2024). A short-stay visa is extended on humanitarian grounds, force majeure or serious personal reasons; the whole stay including the extension may not exceed 90 days in any 180 (art. 32). The form is in Spanish, three pages: two to fill in and one with instructions. FoxDocs writes your data into the fields of the official PDF without changing its layout.
Who applies and where
- a foreign national who entered visa-free — in exceptional circumstances;
- a short-stay visa holder — on humanitarian grounds, force majeure or serious personal reasons;
- the organiser of a medical programme — for a child brought for treatment (art. 162.2), with a medical report;
- in person only, at the Jefatura Superior or Comisaría de Policía of the province where you are staying;
- fee — form 790 code 012; per the National Police table as of 2026-10: visa-free — €17.49 plus an amount for each day of extension, with a visa — €32.17, child under treatment — €17.49; check the amount on sede.policia.gob.es before paying;
- if no answer arrives within the legal time limit, the application is deemed refused (silencio negativo).
What the form asks
- personal details: passport, NIE (if any), surnames, given name, sex (H/M/X), date of birth (dd/mm/yyyy), place and country of birth, nationality, marital status, father's and mother's names;
- address in Spain, mobile phone and e-mail; legal representative, if any;
- representative for filing (section 2), address for notifications (section 3) and consent to DEHú electronic notifications;
- section 4: type of extension — visa-free (art. 49), visa (art. 32), child under medical treatment (art. 162.2) or other;
- one line: the reason for the extension and how long;
- place, date, signature and, at the bottom, the authority the application is addressed to.
Documents usually brought
