What this document is
The “Declaración responsable de consentimiento como conductor habitual” is a template from Spain’s Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) by which a person agrees in writing that the vehicle owner may register them in the Registro de Vehículos as the habitual driver (conductor habitual).
Once registered, DGT sends notices of traffic fines for that vehicle to the habitual driver first, not to the owner. The form is in Spanish, one page; FoxDocs writes your details onto the official template without changing it.
Who files it and where
- the driver signs the form; the vehicle owner (or long-term lessee), or someone they authorise, reports the habitual driver to DGT;
- according to DGT, the owner must hold the driver’s express consent; the owner keeps the consent form and hands it over whenever the administration asks for it;
- the report can be made online at sede.dgt.gob.es (digital certificate, electronic DNI or Cl@ve), in the miDGT app, or in person at a Jefatura de Tráfico with an appointment — bringing the Mod.01 application, the driver’s consent and the owner’s ID;
- only a driver who will use the vehicle continuously for more than 30 days (more than 3 days for rental cars without driver) can be registered, and only with a valid licence for that vehicle;
- reporting a habitual driver to DGT is free.
What the form asks for
- the driver’s given name and surnames;
- their NIF or NIE;
- the driver’s address: street, number, municipality, province;
- the vehicle’s registration number;
- place and date; the driver signs by hand.
What to bring
- the consent signed by the driver;
- in person: the Mod.01 application and a document proving the owner’s identity and address (DNI, Spanish driving licence, residence card, or passport plus NIE);
- if the owner’s representative files it: an authorisation through DGT’s register of representations or DGT’s representation form;
- check the exact list on the DGT website for your case.
How to fill it in with FoxDocs
- Tell the chat, in any language, who will be the habitual driver and the car’s registration number.
- The assistant moves the driver’s name, NIE and address onto the form and sets today’s date.
- Download the PDF, have the driver sign it and give it to the vehicle owner.
